About the Event
Join Sangita for a day of music.
In the morning be immersed in the art of kirtan (call and response singing). Learn and refine instrumental and vocal skills. Develop skills on harmonium, guitar, ukulele, voice and percussion. Bring your own instrument, or share ours. All instruments welcome.
In the afternoon embody the music and sacred phrases of the world's wisdom traditions as you deep dive into the Dances of Universal Peace.
KIRTAN WORKSHOP: 10.30 - 1 pm
- Learn and develop confidence with harmonium, guitar, percussion and voice
- Be immersed in quality group music making, allow your innate musical knowledge and understanding to unfold
- Supportive yoga practices for the voice
- Suitable for both beginner and experienced musicians alike
- Handouts for all the music
DANCES OF UNIVERSAL PEACE + chai & sweets: 2 - 4.30 pm
Participants come together to sing and dance sacred phrases from the different spiritiual traditions of the world. These simple circle dances are woven together with live acoustic music. It's a group practice, much like kirtan, but it is embodied thru movement. Deeply uplifting. Join us for chai afterwards. No experience necessary.
Sangita's Songbooks will be available to purchase at the retreat for the special price of $25.
What to bring:
Wear comfortable clothes, and bring your instruments, or just yourself.

The Big Shed, 24837 Tasman Hwy, St Helens TAS. (On the left, just before arriving in St Helens from south).

About guest teacher Sangita (Melissa Howden):
Sangita is a yoga teacher with a long career of music education behind her and every now and then loves to put on a magical day of simply music! She has a natural way of engaging participants in the musical process and the learning becomes effortless. She enjoys working with every kind of instrument and facilitates a systematic and fun filled process to enable participants to confidently join in with the music making, learn new instrumental and ensemble skills, while drawing out the innate musicality of each one.
